Is Altrua HealthShare Insurance?
Altrua HealthShare is not insurance and Altrua Ministries is not an insurance company. The Membership is a health care sharing ministry that facilitates member-to-member sharing. All Members’ monthly contributions are deposited into an Escrow Account from which all eligible medical needs are shared on a member-to-member basis
Is Altrua HealthShare legal Under The Affordable Care Act?
We are a recognized Health Care Sharing Ministry and members are eligible for exemption from the tax penalty. See Affordable Care Act for more information.
Is maternity included?
Yes for Diamond, Emerald, and, when the maternity option is selected for MyShare! Once you have been in membership for 90 days. The membership shares a maximum of $12,000 in year 1 and $25,000 in years 2+ with a MRA of $5,000. See Membership Guidelines for more information. You cannot be pregnant prior to your effective date. We will not share in pre-existing pregnancy.
Is there a contract?
It is NOT a contract. You can choose to quit the membership at any time. All new members pay a $100 application fee and a $25 fee that goes to Altrua Ministries that is not refundable. Altrua HealthShare does request that proper notification be given if a member chooses to quit for any reason. Please see Resources for more information.
What Guarantees do I have that my contributions will be used correctly?
Financial integrity and accountability of Altrua HealthShare is very important. What we do is done according to biblical standards for operating and maintaining the highest level of accountability through our auditing procedures and board of directors.
Will my doctor accept Altrua HealthShare
Yes. Members can explain to any medical provider or facility that they are a participant in a Health Care Sharing Ministry called Altrua HealthShare and that you are a self-pay patient. Show your provider the Altrua HealthShare Member ID card either from the Altrua HealthShare App or the physical card printed from the App or the Member Portal and explain that the medical need should be sent by the provider either electronically or by mail as outlined by the instructions in the Member Portal.
How do I find a provider?
As an Altrua HealthShare Member, you have access to your current physician or our HealthCare Concierge can help you find one. Our Members can go to any provider or facility they choose regardless of the provider’s “network” affiliation, and by doing this Members can now skip the extra costs that used to be associated with visiting a non-affiliated provider. You have access to virtually any provider in the nation.
